Lake San Marcos History
In 1962 the Frazar Brothers (Gordon, Don & Bob) purchased the Clemson-Wells Farm (1200 acres) and began construction of the planned community of Lake San Marcos. They formed Citizens Development Corporation as a vehicle for the project and immediately started on the reshaping of the lake (to its present 80 acres), subdividing and building residential properties, along with a commercial center, recreation center, restaurant and two golf courses. The majority of the homes are not age restricted (55+ years), and even though retirees are flocking to the area, young families have discovered this best kept secret.
